
Although I enjoy the look of wild oats, it’s time to harvest them to use as mulch before the heat kicks in.. in the winter, they will decompose and add nitrogen to our soil:)
Next spring they will grow again..and we will harvest 🙂

I’ve taken some permaculture classes during which I learned about a technique of mulching which Ruth Stout brought to the community. It emphasized the use of hay in gardens to suppress weeds and retain moisture. Before this we would, like many gardeners, weed our yards and throw them away. ( We still do this in the front yard) But it dawned on me that all those “ weeds” were actually a type of hay.. and so .. we have reframed our understanding of the wild things God tosses into our yard and renamed them blessings:)
