A dandelion’s grand allegro

In the grass where snow flowers bloom,

breezes blow through dandelions, children’s hair

and the eyelashes of an old women

who opens her kitchen window,

calls to her man

“Looks like spring”

until he comes to stand next to her

tells her how much she looks like a ballerina,

reaching for the sun

learning to let go

gracefully

My name is Kimberly Vargas Agnese, though I've previously written as Kae Bucher. I was born in the Florida Keys, but grew up in the Bay Area before migrating south to the San Joaquin Valley. As I ride barefoot around Fresno, I consider the paths I've chosen and the crossroads where our country seems to have perched itself. Thanks to my Romani ancestry, many people groups reside within me and my poetry tends to reflect this. I love welcoming the sunrise with my Native American flute.   3. A Dandelion…. Lovely worded free lines. My suggestion applies to other pieces also: very strong tangible place and story imagery is gets suddenly disturbed by intangible abstraction as in the final lines of this piece. Best wishes.

    • Haha I think you might be looking for a word other than ā€œabstraction,ā€ which is defined as ā€œthe quality of dealing with ideas and events.ā€ What I see in the final lines of this piece are concrete images (ā€œballerina, sunā€). Perhaps youā€™re having difficulty with the verb- adverb (which is still concrete) pairing?
