Meadow Arc butterfly nursery:)

One of several gulf fritillary eggs on their host plant, Maypop vine.

Video of newly emerged butterfly checking out life:)

Meadow Arc is mesmerizing. The Lord has gifted us with more Gulf Fritillaries than we can count … and it’s simply dizzyingly beautiful to observe them. We are so thankful to Him for reconnecting us with the call our ancestors followed in caring for the earth, and thankful to them for caring so much for the children that would follow.. us.. and leaving us a legacy … of butterflies on this continent.

Side note ( genealogical research shows that some of our ancestors were from Piedra Herrada.. a butterfly sanctuary cared for by indigenous people. ) I can’t even begin to tell you how much it means to me.. to experience restoration of what was lost… to see my daughter Stephanie’s fascination with them, to watch her accounting for them and checking in with them daily to make sure they are OK.

That said, the truth is, all of us were once Natives in our own lands and I would love to hear about where you’re people are from, and any connection they passed on to you about the land that they ( ultimately you) sprung forth from.

Love,

Kimberly

PS. All photos and videos were taken by Stephanie as she hangs out in the little nursery that she presides over.
