What if.. when we pick a political side … we’re missing the point?

“ And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who[a] have been called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28

So.. this leads me to believe that the polarity we are presently experiencing between liberals and conservatives… must somehow be for our good too.

As someone who, at one time or another has attempted to choose the most scripturally correct political side, I have been very frustrated , with a “ Christian nation” , which was proffering political parties that wouldn’t allow me to make a good solid choice to align with a party that lined up with Scripture.

I have wondered at times where God was in all this and must confess that I have struggled with the idea that maybe the world was just too wicked, that Christians hadn’t prayed hard enough.. that while God might answer our smaller prayers, for whatever reason, He couldn’t seem to usher in the kind of godly authority that both we, and He purposed for the U.S. At times this horrible premise has led to despair, dread and disillusionment.

But! There is a God in heaven. A God Whose ways are so far removed from my hand wringing understandings, that He is able to laugh at the silly wicked antics of the nations.

A Creative God who is also a potter. A potter who has used the vote to reveal the choices of our hearts. To help us see how each of us.. is so much in need of cleansing,.. growth … Him. For which of us is truly as loving as a political party would purport… or as accepting.. or respecting.. ? Which of us is without the brand of “ hypocrite” that we throw at another?

People have deified those who killed and stole land from my ancestors, removed children from parents in the name of tolerance.

God’s creation is being destroyed by people who claim to follow His Word. Lies are presented as truth…

the desire to make America great again has caused us to grow deaf to the cry of the widow, the orphan, the refugee and the poor.

People have been murdered in the name of love..

But… but..

BUT. There Is a God in heaven… One who is above the policies, politics and kings of the earth. One who humbles and raises up Kingdoms.

One Who Is using this present political climate to reveal and expose our hearts, to call us to His side.. to whisper that He has been, and always will be Immanuel…

He’s not only got this.. He’s using it.. for our good. The political parties are just the sand paper in His hands that He’s using to cleanse both liberals, conservatives… and the heart of every observer on the sidelines.

What if .. when we pick a political side we are missing the point?

What if He isn’t buried under this present cacophony… but so far above it.. that for a moment… our eyes could not see the hem of His robe?

What if He hasn’t forgotten, but is still with us..

And what if … He truly is ..

working all things out …

for our good:)

  1. Beautifully written Kimberly. The amount of hate that we are seeing in our world today over nonsense is terrible. I have always chosen a political party, even when I was in the cult and we weren’t allowed to vote, I always had a candidate I liked more than another, but even if my “side” didn’t win, I feel there was still a level of respect that we don’t see today. I believe this has been the case for the last 20 years and it’s only getting worse.

I think what I’m taking away from what you’re saying is, if we take His side, we wouldn’t be in this world situation.

I think He is still with us, however, I think so many people today are so far off course (Not for me to judge, simply an opinion), that the waters have become so murky. We need a total reset!

Thank you for this incredible post.

    Hugs my friend

  2. Wonderfully written, Kimberly. I agree with what you said, but here are my two cents. I don’t think God is in the hearts of most politicians in Congress and the White House. If you measure what they (from both parties) are doing against Jesus’ teachings, you’ll realize that God is nowhere to be found. The Bible describes the gap between most religious leaders who profess the faith and the people actually sent by God—and it’s huge. You will know them by their fruits, and I don’t see any coming from D.C. They can call themselves whatever they want, but they are not demonstrating their faith through their actions.
