I heard this poem years ago … and it totally stuck with me too:) It always makes me wonder who he was speaking to and how they reacted after he had eaten their plums.
I have no idea why, but I always imagined he was speaking to a wife with shoulder length brunette hair, wearing a pale blue top, and a nonplussed expression after finding out…
Goodness Kimberly, this made me think of William Carlos Williams’s poem:
ThIs is Just to Say
I have eaten
the plums
that were in
the icebox
and which
you were probably
saving
for breakfast
Forgive me
they were delicious
so sweet
and so cold
LOL 🙂

It was one we had to try and interpret in a High School English class. I’ve never forgotten it 🙂

Oh, it was definitely a wife. That’s why he had to smooth it over with the poem lol.

I didn’t know what that mark meant! Thanks for sharing. And William Carlos Williams must’ve had a thing for plums!
