Two visitors have thrown themselves over a branch to ride out this 105 degree ( feels like 108 ) degree afternoon. This behavior, called splooting or heat dumping, is an important coping mechanism given that squirrels are unable to sweat.

Apparently this tree is not only cooler than their bodies are, but also , their favorite respite spot… as we regularly see them this time of year.
